Parents, Please Read!  Next Thursday (2/7) we are going to try to modify the schedule a bit for this one day only. On Thursday, students that are preparing for rank exams may attend either Review classes, Workout classes or both. We are running a pilot program for our June testing, so please let other parents know about the schedule variations.

Black Belts and Blue Belt Level 3's need to have their black belt ordered by February 2nd.
Yellow belts testing for green belt need to be fitted for gear by February 2nd.

• Register for the Rank Exam
• Full uniform (White Jacket Top, Black Pants, Belt, Red Undershirt for colored belts).
• Attendance Card: Students will be asked to present their attendance card to the judges for approval.
• Sparring Gear for Green Belts and above (Head, Punch, Kick, Shin, Mouthpice, Elbow, Groin Cub)
• Arrive a minimum of 15 minutes prior to exam start time.

Mr. Bailey, Ms. Amy, and Mr. Hazelip will be out of town February 23rd (Sat.) and February 24th (Sun.) for the Tiger-Rock Franchisee Summit. Classes will be on regular schedule.

Upcoming Events at Tiger-Rock Martial Arts of West Knoxville

Good Afternoon,

Following Knox County Schools and the University of Tennessee, the academy will be closed tonight (1/25) for classes due to icing conditions and inclement weather. If you are on the limited membership, you may use Saturday to make up previously missed classes.

Team Revolution Practice will still be held tomorrow (1/26) from 12:30-1:30 (Time Shift), casual dress attire. Plan to attend a performance on March 23rd at the Knoxville Zoo, a performance April 12th at Cedar Bluff Elementary from 6-8p.m, and another performance between the two dates at Hardin Valley (Still working on more information).

All students must be registered for their rank exam by February 2nd. If you have any questions, please feel free to talk with Ms. Amy at the front desk or one of our trainers.

Academy Closed Friday (1/25) Due to Inclement Weather

Following Knox County Schools and the University of Tennessee, the academy will be closed 1/25 due to icing conditions and inclement weather. Please pick up additional training days throughout the week to make up. Check your email or our website later this evening for a possible modified Saturday schedule. Stay Safe and Warm!

Skyler Practices 100 Times Theory while learning to ride his bike

Tiger-Rock Martial Arts employs a life skill program throughout its martial arts curriculum, and for one student earlier this week utilized his life skill at home.

Skyler, age 6, was wanting to ride his bicycle without using training wheels. He kept trying and trying to ride the bike without the training wheels, and kept falling off. However, when he was asked if he wanted to put his training wheels back on by his papa, he said,

"Whatever I try, I try 100 times, Quitting is not an option Sir."

Later that day, Skyler was finally able to ride his bike without any training wheels.

The students at Tiger-Rock Martial Arts of West Knoxville are gaining valuable physical and attitude skills that relate to everyday situations. And for Skyler he now understands the benefits of the 100X theory.

Academy Closed (1/18). Modified Schedule Saturday

Good Afternoon,

Following Knox County Schools and to keep down on confusion, the academy will remain closed tonight (1/18) for classes. Mr. Bailey will be offering extra classes tomorrow (1/19) for students. If you are on the limited membership, you may use Saturday to make up previously missed classes. The class schedule will be as follows:

8:30-9:25 Adult Grappling
9:30-10:25 Kid Grappling-split mat
9:30-10:25 Family Class-split mat (Adult, Teens, Juniors, and Tiger Cubs (cubs present only with adult training partner/parent))
10:30-10:55 Tiger Cub Class
11:00-11:55 Junior & Teen Class

Students may choose to train in more than one class on Saturday (1/19). If students are unable to make the classes as makeup, Mr. Bailey has outlined a 30 minute workout for students to do at home.

Warm Up: 25 Burpees, 25 pushups, 25 crunches, and 25 situps, Stretch Routine (2 min)
Technical Drills: 25 Round Kicks each side, 20 Double Round Kicks Each side; 15 Triple Round Kicks Each Side (Low, High, Low); use focus target.
Tactical Agility Training: Three to five sets of 10 Burpees, 10 pushups, 10 crunches, 10 situps, & 10 Hindu-Squats (fives).Defense & Attack Practice: Headlock Release (5X both sides)
Sport Sparring Drill (Green Belts & Above): Using left leg sparring stance, round kick to partners ribs/head. Partner/Parent blocks using a low block or an outerforearm block.
White & Yellow Belts: Practice One Steps #1,2,3.

• One Step, #1, Guard Up, Left Step Right Hook Block, Round Kick Low, Round Kick High, Land outside the foot, Right Knifehand High
• One Step #2, Guard Up, Left Outside Crescent Kick, Right Front Kick, Right Punch High, Left Punch Low

Apprenticeship Program: Mr. Bailey needs everyones T-Shirt size, and honors & Leadership teams need to sign release waiver to go bowling on February 9th. We will ALL meet at the academy before we go over to the bowling lanes.

Team Revolution: A reminder that we have practice next Saturday (1/26). The muscle walk originally scheduled for Feb 2nd has been moved to March 23rd at the Knoxville Zoo. We will discuss the performance, as it could be on the same weekend as our Spring National Championship/week before spring break.

Yellow Belts: Everyone needs to be sized our for their gear by February 2nd. The gear order forms are by the front desk.

Black Belts: We need everyone's black belt order form in by February 2nd. The Black Belt order forms are by the front desk. Reminder, everyone should order the rank higher than the belt that is hanging on the black belt wall.

• We have an amazing Know & Go stranger awareness curriculum for non-martial artist for 6-11 year olds. The War on Bullying

Has anyone noticed the new War on Bullying? Bullying has been getting a lot of press and has become quite the catch phrase. Bullying or peer intimidation pervades many aspects of our daily existence: in the workplace, schools, and now especially, the internet. Facebook and other social networking services have been linked to a number of suicides committed by distraught teenagers being harassed online. Perceived psychological abuse has its way of being just as damaging as the physical kind. Of course bullies shaking down smaller and weaker kids for their lunch money still happens and the new anti-bullying legislation being proposed probably won't have much of an effect in public schools where "zero-tolerance" is already in force. I can't blame the school system for trying. It has been suggested that the Columbine High School massacre was carried out by a pair of chronic victims of classroom bullying that went unchecked.

The psychological profile of the modern bully has been updated to include characteristics of entitlement and narcissism from the classic version that depicts the bully as a self-loathing coward who may have been (or is) the victim of abuse, especially at home.

Children enrolled at Tiger-Rock Martial Arts are taught the virtues of respect and self-reliance in addition to self-defense. One wonders how many youngsters who start off as shy and awkward (perfect bully fodder) really manage to break out of their shell to lose their victim mentality. How many kids can honestly say that - thanks to martial arts or whatever - they now can ward off the neighborhood punk with panache. Now, Tiger-Rock Martial Arts is taking the Anti-Bullying approach not only to physical bullying, but also to verbal bullying. Tiger-Rock Membership, Schedule, A.L.L.Y. Updates & Changes

Good Afternoon,

We hope that everyone has enjoyed their Christmas Holidays, and is ready to rock it in TaeKwonDo classes this week. The Trainer, Leadership, and Honors Teams are ready to get back to teaching fantastic lessons as well. Classes resume tomorrow (1/3). Please remember we are on our previous schedule until Monday January 7^th, 2013. The new schedule can be found at www.WestKnoxTigerRock.com/Class-Schedule_0.

The Tiger-Rock A.L.L.Y. (Academic Learning & Leadership for Youth) program’s merit badges are now available.

To earn the Dedication Merit Badge, students must attend 25 lessons before February 7^th, 2013 in their appropriate uniform, and class times.

To earn the Kindness Merit Badge, students must complete three random acts of kindness at home, in school, and within their community. These acts should be documented by the students and presented to a trainer to receive their merit badge. Please also note that students should complete these tasks on their own without being asked by a parent.

Parents: Just in time for the New Year, All Tiger-Rock Parent’s train FREE for 3 months in our Jiu-Jitsu, TaeKwonDo, and Kisado Fitness Programs. Get Fit, Have fun, and learn something through our Tiger-Rock programs.

***Program is limited to parents that have children currently enrolled. The red training jersey is needed to attend classes ($21.04).***

Trainers, Leadership, and Honors Teams: Our first Team Builder Function will be on February 9^th, after promotional testing. We plan on going to Battlefield Knoxville. Please see Mr. Bailey for information.

Lastly, we have adjusted our monthly tuition rates to better suit our families. We are now offering a Limited Program for $69.00 per month. The limited program gives access to two classes per week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday. The unlimited programs still remain the same. We have also introduced an All-Access Upgrade option which includes Weapons, Jiu-Jitsu, and Kisado Fitness for $20 per month for families (for new members only). If you have any questions and changes or upgrades in your membership, please see Mrs. Amy at the front desk.

***Please note all students are grand-fathered in on their current membership. If students downgrade to a limited membership, they will lose all previous grandfather rights, and will be enrolled on the new programs.***
