Five years ago Bil Hazelip was instrumental in the founding of Tiger Rock Martial Arts of West Knoxville. As someone that had faithfully served his country and retired from the US Navy, he felt strongly about the tenets of honor, courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, courage, community, str...ength, humility, and knowledge. These are the tenets that he had always lived his life by and the tenets that he served his country with. Knowing his son’s Josh and Billy’s love of Martial Arts and that they had successfully been in the Tiger Rock program, Bil set out to open a Tiger Rock franchise. His goal was to further emphasize and build on the tenets of Tiger-Rock’s tenets of TaeKwonDo to his children in hopes that they would live their lives by these very tenets while giving his children an avenue to continue their training and development in TaeKwonDo. It was Bil’s legacy and intent to provide a continual foundation for positive development for his children and spread these tenets to the community.
In the beginning Bil was very active in getting the business up and running. If not for his hard work, manual labor, and constant infusing a startup business with the necessary funds to survive, then West Knoxville Tiger Rock would’ve never been open today. Many students, trainers, teachers were a part of the process to build West Knoxville Tiger Rock including Mr. Josh Hazelip, Mr. Billy, Mr. Bailey, Ms. Sharon as well as many others. All played a key role with Bil especially his son’s Josh and Billy who worked tirelessly to get the Academy to where it is today. After funding this franchise for four years, it was simply time for Bil to step away and let his children continue to run the business. His hard work and funding was critical to get West Knoxville Tiger Rock to a position of growth. Josh and Amy become more involved in the behind the scenes issues to deal with the many changes at their Franchisor’s office and they promised Bil they would continue to grow the academy. Additionally, Josh and Amy set out to ensure they were following all the changes to the rules, agreement, and training that they were contractually bound to as a franchisee. Being a franchisee bears a lot of responsibilities and contractual obligations that we are governed and bound by. However, we believe in Tiger-Rock Martial Arts for many reasons. Tiger-Rock Martial Arts International is part of the world’s largest martial arts franchising organization. They have constantly updated and supported their programs for over 28 years. The company was established by Craig Kollars, Art Monroe, and Bert Kollars in 1983, so the amount of martial arts training, knowledge, and support that is provided to over 200 Tiger Rock Academies is unprecedented for the success of our programs. Furthermore, Tiger-Rock continues to develop a stronger national brand presence so that our students can go to any Tiger-Rock Academy when they are traveling or if they just want to visit and get the same high quality instruction, and continue their training with no additional costs. We have always loved the flexibility that our students get with Tiger Rock to continue their training anywhere in the world. However, like our dad, we believe in the tenets of honor, courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, courage, community, strength, humility, and knowledge and want to support the organization that supports that type of belief to our students, trainers, teachers, and our community family.
Understanding where West Knoxville Tiger Rock came from is important to understand why we are sad today. We do lose a member of our family who has helped us along the way. About 4 months ago Mr. Bailey decided he wanted to open his own academy. Our strategic goal has always been to open a second Tiger Rock academy with Mr. Bailey. So based on our strategic goal and in effort to keep our family together, we approached Mr. Bailey about joining us as an owner of our current Academy as well as the next one. However, after thinking about it, Mr. Bailey decided he really wanted to do it on his own. We are fortunate enough that he let us finish out the cycle until we could get Amy back. As some of you may know for over the past year we have been dealing with some personal health issues related to Amy which has kept her from continuing her training as an instructor and our main person at the front. Amy is integral in the roles she plays and really keeps the West Knoxville TaeKwonDo family together and strong. Her issues have kept us from finishing many of our internal goals including our second academy and Mr. Bailey simply couldn’t wait. We have known for quite some time that Mr. Bailey would be leaving us which is why we have been preparing some new exciting changes in the Academy that we will be announcing very soon. Mr. Bailey has given us verbal notice of his resignation and was kind enough to wait until the end of the cycle and today sadly marks his last day with us. We want to be respectful of his decision to work on his new studio and not require him to work out any other notices to give him time to prepare his Academy. Since his current location is not an approved Tiger Rock franchisee location, we feel it is best to provide him whatever support we can and give him the time he needs. We had hope that Mr. Bailey will find a new location in the future that Tiger Rock International will approve in hopes that we can do tournaments and other events with him. We would like to see the Tiger Rock family grow and be able to continue to offer the support to all our families. We wish Mr. Bailey the best and we thank him for his time working with us. While we realize that some students may follow Mr. Bailey to his new venture, we want you to please realize we still have to uphold our corporate responsibilities so please don’t forget your notice to us if you decide to make that decision. While we hate to lose any member of our family, our students are always welcomed back as you will always be a part of our family.
Once again, be on the lookout as we have many big announcements forthcoming. West Knoxville Tiger Rock has been in the middle of making many program and facility enhancements and we want to thank you for your loyalty and support over the past 4 years.
If any of you have any questions about any of the changes or our future please don’t hesitate to ask, call, email or see us at the academy. Our door is always open to anyone anytime.
Your Tiger Rock Family,
Josh, Amy, Billy, Kaite, Sherry and Bil Hazelip
thanks
